When a child psychologist is the right call

What happens at your first appointment

The first appointment is a consultation, not a test. Nothing is diagnosed on day one. You start with the free 15-minute intake call, then a parent history session usually without your child present, then a session with your child pitched to their age, then a feedback session where you get the formulation in plain language, a written summary and a plan with a review point in it.

Bring school reports and any previous assessment. If a class teacher or school counsellor knows your child well, their observations are often the single most useful thing you can bring.

What we see most often

Vasant Kunj is our largest caseload and the broadest. It runs from three-year-olds referred for speech and social communication concerns, through primary-age children with attention and regulation difficulties, to teenagers with anxiety, low mood and school avoidance.

The international school catchment shapes it too. Schools and services we already work with

Some of what we do around Vasant Kunj happens inside institutions rather than at a centre, which is often how a family first hears of us.

We work with The British School in Chanakyapuri on psychoeducational, cognitive and risk assessments, therapy for children and adolescents, and workshops for teachers, parents and pupils.

At the American Embassy School in Chanakyapuri we carry out psychoeducational, cognitive, comprehensive and brief assessments, including risk assessments, and provide therapy for children and adolescents.

Where a child or adult needs psychiatric input, we work with Sukoon across Delhi NCR for psychiatric assessment, consultation and medication management, so you are not left to find a psychiatrist yourself.

Fees and timelines

Fees are quoted upfront on your intake call, before anything is booked. We do not publish a number because it depends on which clinician you see and what the work involves, and a figure on a web page would be a guess at your situation rather than a price for it.

A therapy course is reviewed formally at around session six, and we would expect you to be seeing some change by then. If you are not, that is a reason to change the plan rather than persist with it.
